Omer Learning 2018: Day 34 | Parashah: Shlach

Today is 34 days, which is 4 weeks and 6 days of the Omer

Instructions for counting the omer are found on our Omer Overview Page. You can find the specific blessing for today at chabad.org.

We’re dedicating a new Sefer Torah on the first day of Shavuot. In honor of this joyous occasion, we’re using the counting of the Omer to take a whirlwind trip through the Torah

Today’s portion is Shlach from the book of Numbers. Today’s insight was generously provided by Benjamin B.

Verses of note: Numbers 13:33

What caught your attention in this parashah?

It caught my attention that the Israelites were feeling bad about themselves and could only see the negative. The Israelites didn’t show confidence in God, who had performed so many miracles for them. This is why those Israelites couldn’t go into the Land of Israel – they didn’t trust in God and did not trust themselves.

What’s one explanation for these verses?

These verses teach me that a negative mindset will not get you anywhere. If the Israelites had believed in themselves, they would have gone and have God on their side. But they let fear rule, and could not do anything but hide. It is important to trust in my abilities and in God.
