This class will serve as an introduction to safrut, the Jewish scribal tradition, including materials, different handwriting styles, and the most important laws of creating a torah scroll.

 

Alexandra Casser has been a soferet (Jewish scribe) and educator since 2010. She specializes in the restoration of antique torah scrolls. Ms. Casser studied Jewish scribal arts while attending Yeshivat Hadar in New York City. She will be repairing one of Etz Hayim’s torahs in May 2022 and congregants will have the opportunity to write a letter or phrase in the scroll.
