Co-sponsored with the Haberman Institute for Jewish Studies.

A “Soul”-ful Weekend

The Oscar-nominated movie “Soul” centers on Joe (voiced by Jamie Foxx), a middle school band teacher who longs to be a jazz musician and deals with themes of purpose and the meaning of life. Watch the movie from the warmth of your couch; it is available on Disney+ or can be rented from Vudu, Google Play, iTunes, FandangoNow, Redbox (the box and online), and YouTube. You can also watch Soul on AppleTV and DirecTV. On Sunday morning, join us for a conversation about the themes in the Pixar movie. Moderated by Leslee Friedman.

And In the Seventh Year: Shmita Then and Now

January 19th, 7:30-9:00 PM. The Bible tells us that every seventh year will be a Shmita or sabbatical year, where debts are forgiven. How was this actually practiced in Biblical and later times? What does it look like in Israel today? This panel discussion, co-sponsored by the Haberman Institute, features CEH’s own Rav Natan; author and ecologist Rabbi David Seidenberg; and Hazon’s Bruce Spierer.
