The Count
Tonight we count the following day of the Omer:
Today is 15 days, which is 2 weeks and 1 day of the Omer
See: The blessings and procedure for counting the Omer.
Today’s Learning
Pirkei Avot 6:6 tells us: Greater is learning Torah than the priesthood and than royalty, for royalty is acquired by thirty stages, and the priesthood by twenty-four, but the Torah by forty-eight things.
The 15th way is: By study of mishnah
From our community:
Nothing beats real books. Well, almost nothing. When I have a question about Judaism, my starting point is books I’ve had for years, and possibly since my bar mitzvah: The International Jewish Encyclopedia by Rabbi Ben Isaacson and Deborah Wigoder, and The Book of Jewish Knowledge, by Nathan Ausubel. Then I might see what I can find in the three volumes of the Jewish Catalog and a few other books I own. After that I’ll hit the internet and cast a wide net. I don’t have any particular favorites, although Jewish Virtual Library (https://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/) usually has something useful and Tablet (https://www.tabletmag.com/) almost always has something interesting. For texts, Sefaria https://www.sefaria.org/texts) is my go-to site — easy to read, with English and Hebrew texts one verse at a time.
