Jews in Musical Theater

Join us for an evening of musical theater as we explore the deep Jewish roots of this genre. Jews have been composers, lyricists, and performers since the inception of Broadway. CEH members Elisa and Adam will guide you through this rich history, accompanied by live performances from local artists.

Our Musical Guests:

RICKY DRUMMOND is a director, actor, playwright, and educator from DC. Select credits: ACTING: Girlfriend, Crazy for You (Signature Theatre); Flowers Stink, Elephant and Piggie’s We Are In A Play (Kennedy Center); Big Fish, Parade, American Idiot, Dogfight (Keegan Theatre); The Wedding Singer, Urinetown (NextStop Theatre). DIRECTING: Director- Shakespeare In Love, Legally Blonde (Keegan Theatre); Director- 2018 Helen Hayes Awards; Assistant Director- Crazy for You, La Cage Aux Folles (Signature Theatre). PLAYWRITING: Desiderium, Still Alive, SuperPup. He holds a Musical Theatre degree from James Madison University. UPCOMING: Audrey at Creative Cauldron.

ERIN GRANFIELD has performed in numerous roles in the DC area. RECENT DC AREA: Creative Cauldron: Ichabod: The Legend of Sleepy Hollow (Mevroux Van Tassel), Into the Woods (The Baker’s Wife), Always…Patsy Cline (Louise Seger), On Air (Agnes Davis), Nevermore (Elmira), multiple solo shows; RBTC: The Bridges of Madison County (Francesca, regional premiere); Pallas Theatre Collective: Crazy Mary Lincoln (Mary Harlan Lincoln) FIRST NATIONAL TOUR: Stroman-directed The Music Man (Marian, u/s/performed). CONCERTS and CABARET: many DC/NYC/national venues. AWARDS: National YoungArts Competition Finalist; U.S. Presidential Scholar in the Arts Semifinalist. EDUCATION: Northwestern University – Vocal Performance/Theatre (Music Theatre Certificate Program); Interlochen Center for the Arts (Music Theatre)

JENNIFER REDFORD has performed in numerous roles in the DC area in both professional and community theatre. At NextStop Theatre, she’s appeared in Title of Show, Godspell, Urinetown, and Into the Woods. Favorite roles with the Reston Community Players include Rose in Gypsy (WATCH Award), Desiree in A Little Night Music (WATCH Award), Miss Hannigan in Annie, Fantine in Les Miserables, the title role in the The Drowsy Chaperone. Other DC area productions include: Evita (McLean Community Players), 9 to 5 (The Arlington Players), and The Great American Trailer Park Musical (Kensington Arts Theatre).

JOSHUA REDFORD is an actor, director, and sound designer.
